Histofaktura
The “Histofaktura” project was created as a way of restoring the student collection of permanent microscope slides. The idea for the project came to life as a soloution for replacing the old permanent slides which had become damaged and unusable after many years of being used in lectures.
The making of permanent microscopic slides is in itself an interesting and complex process which includes sampling of tissue, fixation and processing of animal tissue
and organs with multiple chemicals before dyeing it and turning them into final products which can then be put on slides and used while microscoping and study the morphology of tissue and organs.
The main purpose of this project is to start a tradition of making permanent slides among students whose results would improve the quality of lectures in the fields of
zoology, histology and embriology. The slides made in the project itself will be donated to the student organisation BIUS as well as Faculty of Science and several high schools as a way of popularizing the theme of practical work in biology.
Along side the project several workshops of similar topics will be held as a way of offering the experience of making permanent microscopic slides to the students who are currently not in the project.
