“SpeleoBacillus – 2022.” is a research-educational project of the Section for microbiology of the Students association – BIUS, done in cooperation with the Croatian biospeleological society. Throughout this project we will explore the vastly neglected microbiological aspect of cave habitats through field and laboratory work. Caves are one of the most preserved habitats from human influence, so they possess a grand potential for cultivating rare bacterial species. Comparative analyses of cave and environmental strains of bacteria in the Bacillus genus will serve to test their unique features. Furthermore, most interesting bacterial strains will be preserved for potential future studies.
